First gay couple to get married in China
Mark and An An have become the first gay couple to get married in Shenzhen, China.
"I'm marrying him, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health, I will respect him forever," the pair took their marriage vows separately last week.
A wedding banquet was also held for the guests but to their disappointment, only five people attended the event even though they had booked dinner for 50 guests.
The five people who attended the wedding and sent their blessings to the couple included three female friends of Mark, An An's aunt and a gay friend.
"We sent wedding cards to our relatives and friends, and then telephoned all of them but they still didn't come," said Mark.
He said some even called them minutes before the wedding started to make their last effort to stop them from getting married.
"We are gays. Society may not accept us but we are deeply in love and willing to marry each other. Nothing can tear us apart," said the couple.
The aunt, who has been taking care of An An since he was small, was seen crying a few times throughout the wedding.
At first, she objected to the relationship but was touched by the couple after they knelt down outside her room for three days just to get her blessings for the wedding.
Mark, 25, and An An, 23, fell in love immediately when their eyes met at a bar.
