He comes from a rich background and the only child in his family. His father is a successful businessman in the textile industry. He loves performing arts since he was a boy and was sent by his mother to learn violin and join the drama club. Like many parents, Feng's parents wanted him to inherit the family business and had never expected that the artistic skills that their son learned since he was small would eventually be used in his career. However Feng insisted to have his own career, independent from his father's.

After his high school, he applied and was admitted into the Shanghai Theater Academy where he learned more about acting. Coming from a rich background he worried little about his future when he was in the institute unlike his course mates who were always trying to get to know directors, producers and agents in order to get employed after graduation. After graduation in 2001 he only received a few acting offers and was often cast in forgettable roles, his career was going nowhere. After a few years, at the suggestion of his friends, he decided to try his luck in Beijing.

When he arrived in Beijing, he had to start his career all over again. He also learned to be fully independent something which he had not experienced when he was in Shanghai. His breakthrough role came after he appeared in a major production "The Drive Of Life" in 2007.
